Meet Our Staff

Roger Ratliff

Senior Pastor

Bro. Roger, and his family, came to Vansickle on May 6, 1984. When they joined Vansickle, the church was relatively small and only had a handful of faithful and committed members.

After more than 30 years of service, God has richly blessed the church under his leadership and VBC has been amazed at the wonderful things God has done and continues to do. He has two grown children, Roger and Ricky.  Bro. Roger graduated from Irving High School and continued his studies at Eastfield College, D. Edwin Johnson Seminary, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He enjoys spending time working in the yard, teaching his bible study group, perusing at the bookstore, and being in the mountains.  His favorite thing that Jesus said is: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33

Roger Dawson

Associate & Pastor of Youth

Roger D. and his wife Jackie joined the Vansickle Family on August 2, 2006.  After visiting for the first time, they instantly felt a kindred relationship with the people of VBC and knew God was calling them to serve the students and families in the youth ministry at the church. They have been serving faithfully now for over 10 years.  They have two grown children, Reah and Reagan, who have both graduated out of the youth ministry and are following God’s plan for their lives at college.

Roger graduated from North Shore High School and continued his education at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and finished at Houston Baptist University.   He loves spending time with his family, learning new things on his guitar, preaching in the pulpit when opportunities arise, and laughing.  Two of his favorite books are The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer and Knowing God by J.I. Packer.  His favorite thing that Jesus said is: “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”  —Matthew 13:44

Philip Farmer

Director of Music & Education

Philip Farmer and his wife Vonda have grown up in the Vansickle family.  In 2013, when the church was faced with looking for another Minister of Music, he volunteered to serve as an interim until the position was filled by whomever God was calling.  After getting a taste for leading God’s people in worship, he fell in love with it and began praying whether God might be calling him to fill that position full-time.  Soon after, he retired from the City of Greenville and came on board as the Director of Music and Adult Education at VBC.

Philip and Vonda have two children, Phoenix and Philip, Jr.  He graduated from Caddo Mills High School, and continued his education at Texas A&M University in Commerce.  He loves hanging out with his family, occasional fishing trips, performing at the Caddo Mills Opry, and leading worship at Vansickle.

Sue Cariveau

Admin & Financial Secretary

Sue and her husband Randy came to Vansickle in 2010. Before coming to VBC, she served as one of the financial secretaries at her previous church. When a position opened up in the office, she was a natural fit for the job. She now has over 10 years experience working in a church office.

Sue graduated from Manzano High School in Albuquerque, NM, and finished her BBA in Accounting from Texas A&M University in Commerce.  When she is not taking care of the needs of the church, she is spending time with her family or serving as a child advocate for CASA. They have two grown children: Katie and Kyle.

Brandi Cook

Director of Children's Ministry

Brandi and her husband Greg came to Vansickle in 2011.  She has a great love for children and a deep desire to teach, encourage and share the love of Christ with them.

Brandi has three daughters, Abby, Emma, and Mikayla.  She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas and a lifetime teaching certificate for elementary and early-childhood education.  She is a published author, writing several children’s stories.  She has taught in the public school setting for several years and now homeschools her three daughters.

Mandy Brown

Director of Preschool & Nursery

Mandy has been at Vansickle longer than any other staff member at VBC! She, and her husband, Carl, have grown up here at the Church. Through the years, she has developed a great love for and passion to teach, nurture and care for the little ones in the preschool and nursery. She makes it her goal to not only allow the little children to come unto Jesus, but wants to facilitate and encourage that!

Mandy graduated from Greenville High School and continued her education at Collin County Community College.
